  21. Welcome to WinTalk!  This file contains installation instructions,
  22. last-minute information, new features, and bugs fixed.  The main
  23. WinTalk documentation has all been converted to on-line help, and can
  24. be accessed from within WinTalk by selecting "Help" from the icon menu.

  39.        "THE INTERNET ANYWHERE" (TIA) or TWINSOCK USERS:
  40.       WinTalk will *NOT* work most of the time with pseudo-slip
  41.       connections.  You have to have your own IP address (rather
  42.          than sharing a Unix host's) to use WinTalk.

  45.     **** Please make sure you are running v1.0Bbeta2 or later ****
  46.    Specifically, v1.0A will *NOT* consistently work with WinTalk!!

  51. 2.0  Installation instructions
  52. ------------------------------

  54. Since there is no installer program for WinTalk yet, you'll need to
  55. install it yourself, but don't worry - it's very easy.  You've
  56. already taken the first step by unpacking the .zip file and reading
  57. this README.  The .zip file contains the following files:
  58.  
  59. README.1ST   -  This file
  60. WINTALK.EXE  -  The actual program
  61. WINTALK.HLP  -  The help file
  62. CTL3D.DLL    -  Microsoft's "3d" control DLL
  63. DINGDING.WAV -  An initial "ring" sound
  64.  
  65.     First, place the WINTALK.EXE and WINTALK.HLP files in
  66. whatever directory you wish to run them from.  Then use the Program
  67. Manager File->New command to create an icon for WinTalk in an
  68. appropriate Program Manager group.  If you place WinTalk in the
  69. "Startup" group, it will come up each time you start windows, and you
  70. will always be able to receive talk requests if you desire.
  71.  
  72.     Transfer the "dingding.wav" file to your WINDOWS directory,
  73. so WinTalk can find it; if you plan to use another sound for
  74. WinTalk's "ring", or no sound, this is not necessary.
  75.  
  76.     You must have a version of CTL3D.DLL in your path.  If you
  77. don't already have it, copy the version distributed with WinTalk
  78. into your WINDOWS directory.

  80.     You must also have a WINSOCK.DLL that operates with your
  81. windows TCP/IP networking stack.  For more information on this,
  82. please contact your network vendor.

  85. 3.0  WinTalk "Pro"
  86. ------------------

  88. In addition to this FreeWare version, WinTalk 1.2 now has a
  89. commercial brother, WinTalk Pro.  WinTalk Pro is available for $20
  90. from ELF and includes:
  91.  
  92. - Call Answering : An answering machine for your computer!  The
  93.    icon's eyes flash to let you know you have messages, and you can
  94.    initiate a talk to anyone who's left you a message with the click
  95.    of a button.
  96.  
  97. - Call Screening : You can now set a group of "VIPs" in your hotlist,
  98.    and only those users will ring through to you.  Everyone else will
  99.    get your choice of a refusal, a "not logged in" notification, or
  100.    your answering machine.

  102. - Your very own WinTalk floppy in the mail (should you desire it -
  103.    you will also be able to obtain WinTalk Pro via FTP)

  105. - Free copies of all maintenence releases of WinTalk Pro through v2.0.
